Are The Blue Devils NCAA Sportsbook Frontrunners in the ACC?

We are but a couple of weeks away from the start of the 2017 online college basketball betting season and NCAA sportsbook players are already searching for the best predictions to make for this year’s upcoming season. When it comes to making basketball betting predictions, the Duke Blue Devils are a household name. So with the start of the season right around the corner, should players who bet on NCAA basketball back the Blue Devils in the ACC? Let’s take a look at the odds Duke, and other ACC contenders, are facing for a national championship to better understand this question.
Online College Basketball Betting Lines for National Title
Florida State Seminoles +4000
North Carolina Tar Heels +800
Notre Dame Fighting Irish +5000
Louisville Cardinals +650
Virginia Cavaliers +2500
Duke Blue Devils +650
Clearly, judging by the title predictions the online college basketball betting odds are making, the Blue Devils are one of this year’s top teams. No other team is facing better odds than +650 for an NCAA title. However, some other teams are pegged at that mark, including the ACC’s own Louisville.
The Blue Devils are coming off a 28-9 (11-7 in ACC play) record that saw the program finish 5th in ACC standings. It was Mike Kryzewski’s 37th season at the helm, marking one of the most successful runs in NCAA basketball. Duke was able to earn an invitation to the ACC Tournament, where they managed to go all the way to the conference championship. However, in the NCAA tournament – where it really matters, Duke only managed to make it to the second round, where South Carolina upset them 81-88.
Of course, first thing up for Duke is usurping the reigning national champions and longtime rivals, the North Carolina Tar Heels. In addition to winning last year’s title, the Tar Heels also have the player many online college basketball betting pundits consider to be the most-skilled in the entire conference: Joel Berry II. Berry has won All-NCAA tournament selections back to back and averaged 14.7 points per game last season. Defensively he’s also an extremely important asset. However, while most players betting on college basketball in 20174 would agree that Berry might be the best player in the ACC, at the moment the Tar Heels are not the best team – despite being national champs.
But that’s the name of the sport in the NCAA. You have to be able to continually bring in new talent to remain at the top. But brining in new talent isn’t enough, you also have to develop them into the players you need. And most would agree that Duke does this better than any other program within the ACC.
Grayson Allen might be one of the most hated players in collegiate basketball, but he’s still a force to be reckoned with (when he’s not tripping up the opposition). Allen will be joined by freshman point guard Trevon Duval, a 5-star player. That’s only half the starting lineup, but it’s still good enough to convince players who bet on college basketball that the Blue Devils are frontrunners in the conference.
