Betting NCAA Basketball Lines:
Elon Phoenix TBP
Duke Blue Devils TBP
For those who are unfamiliar, Elon Phoenix competes in the Colonial Athletic Association and is led by 9th year head coach Matt Matheny. Matheny has a plethora of coaching experience, even before joining the Phoenix, considering he spent 16 years as an assistant coach at Davidson College. Matheny enters this year’s season with a 126-130 record, with his entire head coaching experience being spent with Elon. His record lets NCAA sportsbook players know exactly what they expect out of the Phoenix this season. Additionally, even though the odds have yet to come out for this matchup, fans can expect Elon to be pegged as an extremely heavy underdog. After all, they’ll be going up against the No. 1 team in the nation. Elon finished last year’s season with an 18-14 record and will be looking to build upon that success in this upcoming season.
Duke Blue Devils
The Duke Blue Devils come into this year’s season ranked No. 1 in the nation. However, you wouldn’t guess that going by how the program finished the 2016 season. Last year, Duke delivered a 28-9 (11-7 in ACC play) record that opened the door to find success in both the ACC Tournament as well as in the NCAA Tournament – where it really counts. In the ACC Tourney, the Blue Devils made a strong and defiant push all the way to the championship game, where they faced No. 22 Notre Dame and delivered a crushing 75-69 beatdown to the Fighting Irish. Afterwards, Duke entered the NCAA Tournament as the second seed. Nonetheless, they wouldn’t quite live up to those second seed expectations.
Fans betting NCAA basketball in 2017 will recall that Duke faced Troy in the opening round of the March Madness tournament. Duke had little difficulty delivering an 87-65 beating to Troy before preparing to face South Carolina in the next leg. Despite entering that second round matchup as a heavy sportsbook favorite, Duke came up short 81-88 in the end. This year, with Duke being pegged as the No. 1 team, we’ll have to see if they can deliver better results despite being favored by the odds.
