Badgers Easy Betting NCAA Basketball Pick Over Ohio State
Posted by: Mike Davis
After longtime Badger coach Bo Ryan announced his retirement 12 games into the betting NCAA basketball season last year, no college basketball sportsbook was sure that Wisconsin would be able to transition smoothly into the Greg Gard era (Gard was Ryan’s associate head coach who stepped in as interim coach before fully accepting the responsibilities of the head coach). Much to everyone’s surprise, Gard was able to lead the Badgers to a 22-13 finish including 12-6 in Big Ten play, a No. 23 nationwide ranking, and Wisconsin’s 18th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Needless to say, Gard more than exceeded everyone’s expectations for how the Badgers would handle a coaching swap midseason. But since this is Gard’s first season coaching the Badgers from start to finish, how has Wisconsin been fairing this time around?
Considering that the Wisconsin is 13-3 and 5th in the Big Ten, it’s safe to say that the Badgers have been enjoying a good dose of success under Gard. However, recently No. 20 Purdue snapped No. 13 Wisconsin’s 9-game win streak that resulted in the Badgers dropping 5 rankings down to No. 18. Wisconsin will be looking to bounce back against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Thursday night.
The Buckeyes are 10-6 and are ranked 13th in the Big Ten. Additionally, Ohio State will be looking to pick up their first Big Ten win against Wisconsin on Thursday night. The Badgers are 0-3 in Big Ten play while the Badgers are 2-1. With that in mind, let’s see what the college basketball sportsbook odds have to say about this contest.
BETTING NCAA BASKETBALL ODDS – REGULAR SEASON – January, 12th
Ohio State Buckeyes +11 (-115) 134 (-110) +525
Expectedly, the bookies have pegged the Badgers as the program most warranting of fans’ basketball bets. Furthermore, Wisconsin will be enjoying home field advantage since this game is scheduled to take place at the Kohl Center. The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 86-69, but Wisconsin is 11-2 against Ohio State since 2001 and have won the Badgers have won the last two contests as well.
Even though the Badgers are coming in as the 11-point favorites, there will still be a considerable amount of pressure on Ohio State. This betting NCAA basketball season marks the first time the Buckeyes have started 0-3 in Big Ten play in Thad Matta’s 13-year tenure. Likewise, Ohio State is coming into this contest on a three game losing streak that most recently includes a 78-68 loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Considering how many losses Ohio State has suffered against unranked opponents this season it comes as no surprise to see the college basketball sportsbook lines come out in Wisconsin’s favor.
The Kohl center should play a big factor in this contest considering that Wisconsin has won 15 straight on their home court. Over the last 16 years, Wisconsin’s program has built a reputation of success by having a winning Big Ten record, as well as finishing in the top 4 in league rankings each year over that span. Gard has been doing a phenomenal job of keeping the winning tradition alive and will be looking to keep his success going Thursday night against Ohio State.
