The 2017 online NBA betting season kicks off this Tuesday with two enticing matchups to welcome the new season. First up is an Eastern Conference matchup between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers. Given the offseason headlines surrounding both of these teams, this is the perfect matchup to kick off the 2017 season. However, we’ve already taken a look at that matchup so let’s break down the second matchup of the day, pitting the Houston Rockets against the Golden State Warriors. The Rockets made some offseason improvements that have left many NBA bettors believing, or at least hoping, that the franchise can now contend with the NBA titans that are the Warriors. Let’s see what kind of turnout NBA sportsbooks are predicting for this evening’s matchup.
Houston Rockets vs. Golden State Warriors – Tuesday, October 17th
When: 10:30 pm ET
Where: Oracle Arena, Oakland, California
Stream: TNT Drama, NBA TV
Online NBA Betting Odds:
Houston Rockets +9 ½ (-110) 229 (-110) +375
Golden State Warriors -9 ½ (-110) 229 (-110) -470
The Houston Rockets are coming off a 55-27 season that saw the franchise finish 2nd in the Southwest Division and 3rd overall in the Western Conference. It was a highly successful season for the Rockets and James Harden was unquestionably the pioneer behind Houston’s success. However, once in the playoffs, the Beards’ luck ran dry as the Rockets were eliminated in the Conference Semifinals by the San Antonio Spurs 4 games to 2. Nonetheless, Houston was able to make it past Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the opening round of the postseason, so the team did enjoy some modest playoff success last year. But make no mistake this Rockets team is reloaded and ready to take the West by storm.
This past offseason, the Rockets went out and nabbed Chris Paul, leaving player betting on NBA this season scratching their heads. Specifically, some thought the move would cause some problems with Harden, the team’s star. Some felt that Paul and Harden’s style could cause the superstars to clash with each other. However, considering that the Rockets posted a 4-1 record this preseason, it’s safe to assume that the two aren’t having that much of an issues spreading the love. We’ll have to see how they hand themselves in regular season basketball this evening.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors finished the 2016-17 season with a 67-15 record to finish 1st in both the Pacific Division as well as the Western Conference. The team was unable to replicate the regular season success they had found the year before, but considering the difference in postseason success it’s safe to say the franchise was not complaining. Once in the playoffs, Golden State posted an undefeated online NBA betting streak all the way to the championship series. Once there, the Warriors would concede a single loss to the Cavs on the road before winning the series 4 games to 1, avenging the humbling loss the franchise had endured the year before.
