He knows it. Kevin Durant understood that the moment he signed with the Golden State Warriors everything was going to change. And it did. Before signing the two year contract with Golden State, KD had the need to talk to his now former teammate Russell Westbrook to tell him how everything was going down, and he knew from that point on, the relationship between the two was never going to be the same. In regards to his conversation with Russell Westbrook, Durant said, “I just told him. I let him know how I felt,” “Obviously, our relationship won’t ever be the same again. But it’s something I wanted to do, and I expressed that to him. Hopefully he respected it.”
But the long faces and the critics from the outside are of no concern for Durant or the rest of the Warriors. They can all get used to the bad talk because that’s the last thing on their mind. Durant’s goal is clear though. He wants to win a championship. He expressed his great desire to be the final boost that the Warriors felt short of this past season to win the upcoming one. “I want to win a championship, but you’ve got to play great basketball to win a championship,” Durant told said in an interview. “Those guys were so close last year, so they’re hungry this year to get back. I want to help them. I want to be the guy that takes them over the top.
At the sportsbooks online, the Warriors are already favorites to win the 2017 NBA Championship with the line standing at +205 followed by the Cleveland Cavaliers at+285 and the San Antonio Spurs at +530. There’s a huge difference standing between the Spurs and the Cavs. This is precisely what Commissioner Silver meant by “super teams”.
