The Celtics have made the playoffs for the last three years consecutively, but 2017 marks the first time in that tenure that the Celtics have been able to make it past the First Round. Boston cashed in their ticket to the postseason by posting a 53-29 regular season record that led to the aforementioned first place finish in the East. Boston was also first in the Atlantic Division.
Boston opened up this year’s postseason by facing the Chicago Bulls. Although the Bulls posted a considerably worse record than Boston, the Bulls were still able to give the Celts a run for their money. Chicago opened the series by picking up two back-to-back victories. However, those couple of wins would be all the Bulls got in the playoffs, as 4-straight wins on behalf of Boston sent Chicago packing.
The series against Washington has been the opposite. Boston opened strong by winning the first two games of the series. Nonetheless, the Wizards have clawed their way back into the mix of things by winning the last two games of the series, effectively tying Washington with the Celtics 2-2.
The Wizards delivered a moderately successful regular season performance that culminated in a 49-33 record. With that record, Washington finished 1st in the Southeast Division and 4th in the Eastern Conference.
The Wizards opened up this year’s playoffs by squaring off against the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks put up a competitive performance, but in the end Washington advanced past Atlanta 4-2. Washington will be looking for similar results against the Celts.
