Yankees Vie to Edge Out MLB Wagering Lead over Toronto

Posted by: Anthony Yaylor

The online MLB wagering season continues this Tuesday. Let’s take a look at Monday’s betting results, before breaking down one of the day’s contests.

Monday’s Online MLB Wagering Recap

Monday’s action got off to an interesting start as the Pirates shutout the Detroit Tigers 3-0 in Pittsburgh. Afterwards, fans were treated to a thrilling NL East matchup between the Miami Marlins and Washington Nationals.

The Nationals managed to come away with that contest 3-2, giving Washington an even larger lead atop the division.

The Cincinnati Reds beat the Padres 11-3, and the Cardinals beat the Royals by the same score.

The Minnesota Twins won a tough one against the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4, and the Chicago Cubs managed to scrape past the San Francisco Giants 5-3.

The Orioles delivered a surprising 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels, but it doesn’t do much for Baltimore who is 7 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East.

Speaking of the AL East, the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays are set to face each other this Tuesday in what is shaping up to be a great divisional match. Let’s take a look at what sports betting sites have to say about this pairing.

Online MLB Wagering Odds:

Toronto Blue Jays -1 ½ (+155)         9 (-115)           -123

New York Yankees

The Yankees come into this contest sporting a 59-51 record that ranks them as the 2nd best team in the AL East. New York is currently 3 games behind 1st place Boston, and 2 ½ games ahead of the third place Tampa Bay Rays.

The Yanks enter Tuesday’s contest riding a 2-game win streak, after closing out their 4-game series against Cleveland on a high note. However, before that, New York had lost 4 games in a row, which allowed the Red Sox to nestle up the top spot in the division.

So far this online MLB wagering season, the Yankees and Blue Jays have faced each other 10 times. Overall, both teams are tied with 5 wins a pop, but New York has been able to outscore their AL East rival 59-44.

To help get the upper hand over Toronto, the Yankees will be sending CC Sabathia to the mound Monday evening. Sabathia is 9-4 on the season with a 3.81 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. Sabathia has posted a 6.00 ERA in his last 7 days and while that may be unimpressive, it still seems like a stretch to paint New York as underdogs against Toronto.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays fly into this contest with a 52-59 record that ranks them dead last in the AL East, 10 ½ games behind Boston. The Blue Jays haven’t found any measure of consistency this season, and will be looking to spoil the Yankees’ 2017 chances more than anything else this evening.

JA Happ will get the nod from Toronto. Happ is 4-8 on the season with a 3.92 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. Happ has some respectable stats, but it’s still not enough to validate the MLB sports odds Toronto is facing this evening.
