Yankees Hoping to Bounce Back This MLB Betting FridayPosted by: Charlie Smith
The MLB betting season continues this Friday with a total of 15 Major League Baseball contests on slate. Most of today’s action will be clustered towards the end of the day, giving MLB wagering fans the perfect reason to hit up the bars Friday evening. Before we take a look at any potential games worth betting on, let’s take a look at what Thursday’s action turned up.
Thursday’s MLB Betting Results
The night got off to a wacky start with the Philadelphia Phillies breaking their 5-game losing streak by picking up a 5-1 upset victory over the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox breaking their 3-game losing streak by shutting out the Minnesota Twins 9-0.
From there MLB wagering fans saw the Texas Rangers give the Blue Jays an 11-4 romping to even up their 4 game series against Toronto 2-2.
Soon after, the Diamondbacks would follow the upset-precedent set forth by both the Phillies and White Sox by picking up their second straight upset over the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies were in contention for 1st place in the NL West, until they ran into Arizona. Arizona has beat Colorado decisively in their last two games; 16-5 and 10-3.
The Cleveland Indians would not let themselves get upset however, as they would beat the Orioles 6-3 to close out their series against Baltimore 3 games to 1. The Yankees were not so fortunate, as they would suffer an upset at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels.
New York started the season strong but they’ve hit a rough MLB wagering patch since. The Yankees have gone 1-8 in their last 9 contests, which has had a devastating effect on their lead within the AL East.
The Yankees will have a shot at bouncing back this Friday, when they face the Rangers on home court. However, Texas is coming off a strong performance against Toronto and they feel as though they should have no problem beating a team on such a massive losing streak. What do the baseball odds have to say about the Yankees chances?
Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees – Friday, June 23rd
When: 7:05 pm ET
Where: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
Series: Game 1 of 3-game series
Stream: MLB TV
Texas Rangers +1 ½ (-185) 10 (-115) +108
New York Yankees -1 ½ (+160) 10 (-105) -118
The Rangers will be looking to make their third-straight postseason appearance in 2017. However, they’ll need to climb the AL West standings a bit in order to so. The Rangers currently rank 3rd in the division, thanks to their 36-36 record that puts them 13 games behind the division-leading Houston Astros. The Rangers own a 2-game lead over 4th place Los Angeles and are 2-games behind 2nd place Seattle as well.
To help make their way up the AL West standings, the Rangers will be sending Yu Darvish to the mound. Darvish is 6-5 on the season with a 3.35 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Darvish hasn’t been playing his greatest lately, posting a massive 9.00 ERA in his last 5 innings. The Japanese’s recent struggles might be the leading reason Texas comes into this game as the MLB betting underdog.
New York Yankees
The Yankees had built themselves a massive lead atop the AL East that is all but chipped away, all thanks to their aforementioned woes. New York comes into this game with a 39-31 record that all but ties them with the Boston Red Sox for 1st in the AL East.
New York will be starting Masahiro Tanaka Friday evening. Tanaka is 5-7 on the season with a 6.34 ERA and 1.49 WHIP. Tanaka has been struggling even more than Darvish as of late, posting an ERA of 11.25 in just 4 innings. Ouch.
