Sunday’s online MLB betting action resulted in some pretty nasty blowouts. The Cleveland Indians pillaged the Kansas City Royals 10-1, the Seattle Mariners shutout the Boston Red Sox 5-0, and the struggling Chicago Cubs looked weak in their 9-4 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
All three of these teams will get a shot at redemption this Monday, with the Dodgers facing the Cardinals at 2, the Red Sox squaring off with the White Sox at 2 as well, and the Royals are set to take on the Detroit Tigers later on this evening around 7. The aforementioned lot will be looking to avoid a blowout, so players who bet on baseball can expect a more competitive result in each of their matchups. However, one contest that could have blowout-esque results is the pairing between NL East’s two bottom teams, the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins.

Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia has gone 5-straight seasons without making the postseason, and the franchise has failed to post a winning record in that tenure as well. The Phillies are hopeful they can put an end to that drought this season, but Philadelphia’s lack of consistency makes that goal seem impossible, not to mention the hole they’ve already dug for themselves.
Philadelphia comes into Monday night’s game with a 17-31 record. The Phillies are currently 1-game behind 4th-place Miami and a whopping 13-games behind 1st place Washington in the NL East.
Jeremy Hellickson will get the start against Miami. Hellickson is 5-2 on the season with a 4.28 ERA. Stat’s wise, Hellickson isn’t much better than Miami’s counterpart, Edinson Volquez. However, the Phillies have enjoyed more sportsbook success with Hellickson on the mound than the Marlins have with Volquez.
Miami Marlins
Seeing the Marlins struggle is nothing new as the team has gone 7 years without posting a winning record and 13 years without making a postseason appearance. Nevertheless, the last time Miami made the playoffs they managed to go all the way, proving that this franchise is dangerous in the postseason – if they can make it. Unfortunately, given their current ranking, it doesn’t seem like the Marlins will be breaking their postseason drought in 2017.
The Marlins currently rank penultimate in the NL East, thanks to their 18-30 record. With that disappointing tally, Miami is 3-games behind 3rd place Atlanta and 12-games behind 1st place Washington.
Miami will be sending Edinson Volquez to the mound against the Phillies. Volquez is 0-7 on the season and wields a 4.28 ERA. Despite being winless with Volquez at the helm, the online MLB betting odds have still decided to favor Miami this Monday night.
