Los Angeles Dodgers

Before Game 2, the Dodgers had only conceded one loss this postseason. This invariably led MLB sportsbooks to heavily favor them overall in this series. But something happened in Game 2 that most MLB bettors thought was impossible: the Dodgers’ bullpen was beaten.

In Game 1 of the World Series, Los Angeles only went through 4 pitchers, thanks to Clayton Kershaw’s solid performance on the night. But in Game 2, with Kershaw getting some much needed shut eye, the Dodgers went through a total of 9 different pitchers. Brandon McCarthy got the start of the night but was taken out after a single inning for giving up 2 runs and a homer. Rich Hill got the most amount of action on the night, pitching for a total of 4 innings. Hill gave up 3 hits, 1 run but got 7 strikeouts on the night.

With the Dodgers falling short in this matchup 7-6, one has to wonder how much of their World Series hopes lie on Kershaw. Kershaw has the talents to carry this team, and that’s unquestionable. The only problem is that we haven’t gotten the best numbers out of Kershaw in the postseason. Granted, people are always more than eager to defend Kershaw’s poor postseason numbers. But this year’s championship series will help us decide what kind of postseason player the Dodgers’ star pitcher is.

Houston Astros

The Astros are full of confidence after tying the series on the road and now getting to enjoy home field advantage for the next couple of matches. Specifically, the fact that they were able to score 7 runs in Game 2 against the Dodgers’ lets this team know that they have the talent to get the job done. For Game 3, the Astros will be sending Lance McCullers Jr. to the mound. McCullers is 7-4 on the season with a 4.25 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. Those aren’t the best numbers we’ve seen and McCullers will have to out-pitch Brandon McCarthy this evening. McCarthy has a 6-4 record on the year and comes into Friday’s contest sporting a 3.98 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. Judging by the stats both starting pitchers have posted this season, online baseball betting fans can expect a close one this evening.
