Nats Aim for Baseball Wagering Revenge this Tuesday
Posted by: Mike Davis
As the end of the first half of the baseball wagering season approaches, sports wagering players will flock to sportsbooks and rush to TVs to get a good hard look at this season’s contenders. Most eyes will be on the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, who have been establishing themselves as the best teams in the MLB. However, the longtime feud between the Yankees and the Red Sox will likely get a large following, considering how heated both teams have made things atop the AL East.
Tuesday’s baseball wagering action will allow fans to size up these MLB titans once again. Before we take a look at what Major League Baseball has slated for fans this evening, let’s break down what went down this Monday.
Monday’s Sports Wagering Recap
For the most part, Monday’s betting action turned out to be rather one-sided. In the first contest of the night, the Diamondbacks defeated the Phillies 6-1, extending Philadelphia’s losing streak to 3 matches. Afterwards, MLB fans witnessed the Cincinnati Reds get smacked by the Cardinals 8-2.
From there fans witnessed the first competitive contest of the evening. The Cubs and Nationals went back and forth for most of the game, with Chicago pulling out a close 5-4 victory over Washington. These two will face each other this Tuesday, but we’ll get to that in a minute.
The contest between the Yanks and White Sox would be the second competitive contest of the night. New York was able to pull out a 6-5 win over Chicago, and in doing so were able to hang onto their lead atop the AL East for a little while longer.
The Red Sox, who are right on the Yankees’ heels, also won this Monday. They beat the Twins by 3: 4-1. Likewise, the Giants beat the Rockies 9-2.
The Angels delivered Monday’s baseball wagering upset, defeating their inner-city rival, the Dodgers, 4-0. Los Angeles has played extremely well this season and seeing the Angels shut them out is surprising to say the least.
The contest between the Indians and Rangers got the national spotlight. The Indians came into that contest sporting a 3-game losing streak, but that didn’t stop the MLB sports odds from favoring Cleveland. The bookies knew what they were doing, as Cleveland delivered a 15-9 beatdown in front of the whole nation.
This Tuesday, the Indians and Rangers will face each other and once again, the nation will be able to tune in. However, accounting for Monday’s results, MLB betting players might be more interested in the aforementioned matchup between the Cubs and the Nationals. Let’s take a look at what online bookmakers are predicting for this pairing.
Chicago Cubs vs. Washington Nationals – Tuesday, June 27th
When: 7:05 pm ET
Where: Nationals Park, Washington D.C.
Series: Game 2 of 4-Game Series
Stream: MLB TV
Chicago Cubs +1 ½ (-150) 7 ½ (-110) +156
Washington Nationals -1 ½ (+130) 7 ½ (-110) -166
The Cubs come into this contest with a 39-37 record that ranks them second in the NL Central, just one game shy of tying with the division-leading Brewers. Coming off the franchise’s first World Series win in God knows how long, the Cubs are looking to build on last year’s success. Unfortunately, they haven’t been having the best of seasons. The Cubs own a 6 game lead over third-place St. Louis.
The MLB sports odds are siding against Chicago, and the Cubs will be sending Jake Arrieta to the mound in order to prove the odds wrong. Arrieta is 7-5 on the season with a 4.36 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Arrieta has been on fire lately, posting a 1.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and allowing just 6 hits in his last 7 innings pitched.
The Nationals come into this contest flashing a 45-31 record that paints them as the best team in the NL East, by a considerable margin. The Nationals are currently enjoying an 8 ½ game lead over the 2nd place Atlanta Braves. Washington is on track to make their second-straight postseason appearance.
The Nationals will be starting Max Scherzer this Tuesday. Scherzer is 8-5 on the season with an impressive 2.09 ERA and an even more impressive 0.81 WHIP. Scherzer has been on fire lately as well, posting a 0.38 WHIP and 0.00 ERA in his last 8 innings pitched. The Cubs might have beaten the Nats this Monday but with Scherzer on the mound, Chicago will likely end up losing this Tuesday.
