We’ve officially reached the end of first half of the online MLB betting season. Major League Baseball action will kick off again this upcoming Friday, and in the meantime sports bettors will have the All-Star match to keep them occupied. But before we break down this year’s All-Star game, let’s take a look at what went down this weekend.
The Weekend’s Online MLB Betting Recap
Saturday’s MLB results were pretty surprising. The Rangers upset the Angels 5-2 and the White Sox did the same to the Rockies 5-4. But it wasn’t all upsets Saturday as the Miami Marlins picked up a 5-4 victory over the lowly San Francisco Giants. The Reds blew the Diamondbacks out of the water 7-0, giving us the biggest shocker (and only shutout) of the day. Lastly, the Oakland Athletics slithered past Seattle 4-3.
Sunday was chock full of MLB contests but the most eye-raising results came from the Houston Astros who whooped the Toronto Blue Jays 19-1. With that victory, the Astros enter the All-Star break as the second winningest team in the MLB, and the team with the highest advantage atop a division.
The New York Yankees suffered a 5-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers this past Sunday. With that loss, New York finished their series against Milwaukee 2-1, falling even further behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.
Luckily enough for New York, the Red Sox also suffered a loss this past Sunday, losing 5-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays. Boston goes into the break with a 3 ½ game lead over the Sox.
From there, online MLB betting fans witnessed a plethora of blowouts. The Pirates manhandled the Cubs 14-3, the Nationals beat down the Braves 10-5, Baltimore flew past the Twins 11-5, the Rockies pummeled Chicago 10-zip, and the Marlins won a close one against the Giants 10-8.
The Dodgers picked up a 5-2 win over the Royals to further solidify their lead atop the NL West and the Indians lost a close one to the Tigers 5-3.
Sports betting online fans also got to witness the Futures Game, giving them a look at what they can expect from the youngest talent in the league in years to come.
The All-Star game will be held this Tuesday. The AL has been very dominant in recent years in the All-Star game, winning their conference home field advantage throughout the World Series. However, the 2016 All-Star match was the last to have the outcome determine home field advantage for the World Series. Let’s take a look at what the MLB sports odds are predicting for this year’s match.
MLB’s 88th All-Star Game – Tuesday, July 11th
When: 7:30 pm ET
Where: Marlins Park, Miami
Stream: MLB TV
MLB Sports Odds:
AL All-Stars +1 ½ (-210) 8 ½ (-125) +105
NL All-Stars -1 ½ (+175) 8 ½ (+105) -115
To help up the stakes – since home field advantage is on the line, the MLB has decided to offer monetary incentives to players competing. Each player on the winning side will receive a $200,000 bonus. We’ll have to see how the added motivation plays out.
