Houston Astros

This weekend’s matchup will officially kick off this championship series. Game 2 will be held on Sunday once again in Boston. Afterwards the series will head to Houston for Game 3 and four. The Astros will be looking to get the most out of George Springer and Jose Altuve in order to keep Boston off of the scoreboard. The Red Sox were able to deliver 16 runs in one of their games against New York, so naturally this will be a focal point of Houston’s strategy. Luckily Houston finished 1st in ERA, quality starts, WHIP and BAA, and just about every other important pitching statistic. Justin Verlander will be the man Boston calls upon in Game 1. He hasn’t seen much action during the postseason but he finished the regular season with a 3.38 ERA and a stellar 0.75 WHIP.

Players to Watch: Alex Bregman (2 HR, 4 RBI, .556 BA), Marwin Gonzalez (0 HR, 5 RBI, .538 BA), Tyler White (0 HR, 0 RBI, .500 BA).

Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox bring plenty of momentum into this series and they’ll certainly need if it they are to compete against the team that just got done sweeping the Cleveland Indians. Unfortunately for Boston, they really haven’t had much luck against Houston especially at home. In fact, the Red Sox are 2-4 against the Astros at home in their last 6 meetings. Furthermore, Boston is 4-8 against Houston in their last 12 run-ins. Nevertheless, the MLB playoff betting odds are sticking with Boston at home tonight. Chris Sale is the man tasked with getting the home win here. Sale finished the regular season with a 1.11 WHIP but a more respectable 2.84 ERA.

Players to Watch: Brock Holt (1 RH, 5 RBI, .667 BA), JD Martinez (1 HR, 6 RBI, .357 BA), and Steve Pearce (0 HR, 2 RBI, .333 BA).
