Brewers Look to Avoid Another Online MLB Betting Upset

Posted by: Mike Davis

After a short hiatus, the online MLB betting season is picking up speed once again. This Tuesday, sportsbook player and baseball betting sites alike will have 15 Major League Baseball contests to choose from, offering a matchup to suit each individual’s need. Before we take a look at any mismatches, let’s mulch over Monday’s results.

Baseball Betting Sites Recap Monday’s Action

After witnessing a handful of MLB upsets this past Sunday, sportsbook fans were ready for anything Monday night. Needless to say, Monday didn’t disappoint.

The 1st game of the night didn’t deliver any bombshells. The Washington Nationals picked up a 6-1 win over the Reds – something we could’ve seen coming from a mile away. However, seeing the Orioles deal a 3-1 loss to the Rangers was a little more surprising, and seeing the Pittsburgh Pirates upset the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 was completely unprecedented.

The Red Sox also suffered a stunning loss at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays – who currently rank last in the AL East. Boston opened the door for the Rays to close in on their lead and Tampa Bay capitalized on the situation, advancing past the A’s 3-2.

The same cannot be said about the Yankees. New York, like Tampa Bay, had an opportunity to chisel away the Sox lead atop the AL East. But a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Twins will keep NY firmly planted in 3rd place.

The Cubs and Indians both beat their opponents Monday night. And the Seattle Mariners were the last team to deliver a blowout, beating the Astros 9-7 in Houston.

Accounting for yesterday’s upsets, most online MLB betting fans will want to pay attention to the Brewers Tuesday evening. Sure, Houston also suffered an upset this past Monday. However, the Astros lead atop the AL West is quite formidable.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at what baseball betting sites are predicting for Tuesday’s matchup between the Pirates and the Brewers.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates – Tuesday, July 18th

When: 7:05 pm ET

Where: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Series: Game 2 of 4-Game Series

TV: Local Broadcasts

Stream: MLB TV

Online MLB Betting Odds:

Milwaukee Brewers +1 ½ (-160)      9 (-125)           +136

Pittsburgh Pirates -1 ½ (+140)         9 (+105)          -146

Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates smuggle their way into this contest sporting a 45-48 record that ranks them as the 4th worst team in the NL Central. Despite the losing record, Pittsburgh is only 6 games away from tying with 1st place Milwaukee. Additionally, they are only ½ a game behind 3rd place St. Louis.

Pittsburgh had made the playoffs for three consecutive seasons, until they missed out in 2016 due to a losing record. Despite the frequent trips to the postseason, the Pirates had a difficult time replicating the playoff success found by other Pittsburgh franchises.

To help turn things around, and deliver another online MLB betting upset, the Pirates will be starting Ivan Nova. Nova is 9-6 on the season with a 3.21 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers come into this contest as the winningest team in the NL Central, thanks to their 52-43 record that gives them a 3 ½ game lead over 2nd place Chicago. The Brewers have gone 5 straight seasons without qualifying for the playoffs but are on track to put an end to that drought in 2017.

To help avenge Monday’s loss, Milwaukee will be sending Junior Guerra to the mound. Guerra is 1-3 on the season with a 4.78 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP.
