Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox had a fast start to the series. In Game 1, Boston took a solid 5-0 lead through the opening 3 innings of the series. However, things soon faltered for Boston. Although they were able to hang on for a 5-4 win in Game 1, their Game 1 troubles ended up seeping into Game 2. In fact, the second game of the series saw New York bounce back defiantly 6-2. Obviously this is problematic for the Red Sox since the series is now heading into New York. And by all accounts, it’s pretty clear that the Yankees are the ones bringing the most momentum into the contest. To help counter that momentum, Boston will be sending Nathan Eovaldi to the mound this evening. Eovaldi posted a 6-7 record through the regular season as well as a 3.81 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. No doubt he will be looking to make a solid postseason start tonight, which will be his 1st career start in the playoffs.
Players to Watch: JD Martinez (1 HR, 3 RBI, .375 BA), Steve Pearce (0 HR, 1 RBI, .333 BA), and Xander Bogaerts (1 HR, 2 RBI, .286 BA).
New York Yankees
The Yanks are coming off a massive road win and will be looking to take that momentum in order to build their first lead of the series. Considering how lopsided their 6-2 triumph was, it’s safe to say that New York brings plenty of momentum to the table. Luis Severino is the man tasked with transmuting that momentum into a Game 3 victory. Severino posted a 19-8 record this postseason as well as a 3.39 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. More importantly, Severino posted a 2-1 record as well as a 2.04 ERA in his final 3 starts of the regular season. And unlike Eovaldi, Severino has some postseason experience to his name. Granted it’s not all that impressive, considering he’s 1-1 in the postseason with a 4.50 ERA. No doubt Boston will be looking to capitalize on those numbers this evening. All in all both sides will want to stick with their starters for as long as possible but both sides will likely be pulled around the 6th.
Players to Watch: Aaron Judge (3 HR, 4 RBI, .583 BA), Aaron Hicks (0 HR, 1 RBI, .400 BA), and Giancarlo Stanton (1 HR, 1 RBI, .231 BA).
