Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
The Angels kicked off their 2017 season by facing off against the Oakland Athletics in a 4-game series. Los Angeles went 2-2 in that series, which now ranks them 3rd in the American League West. The Angels will be looking to make the best of their 3-game series against Seattle, in order to catch up to division-leading Houston, who has a stellar 3-1 record. The Angels last stepped on the diamond this past Thursday, when they lost to the A’s 5-1.
Los Angeles will do all they can to crawl above .500 this Friday night, but they’ll also have something else on their mind. Garrett Richards, the best pitcher the Angels have, will be undergoing a precautionary MRI on his right bicep. The team will do their best to pull out a win, but it won’t be the only ‘win’ they need Friday.
Meanwhile, the Angels will send Jesse Chavez to the mound against the mariners. This marks Chavez’ first MLB start since the 26 he made for Oakland in 2015. Chavez pitched 62 games as a reliever with both the Jays and the Dodgers. However, Chavez doesn’t have a great track record against Seattle, going 0-6 with a 5.84 in 17 career games (seven starts).
The online MLB betting odds are ruling the Mariners out, which makes perfect sense after they dropped three to the Houston Astros to kick off the season. They may not be last in the division (the Rangers are 0-3) but this is certainly not the start the Mariners were hoping for.
Seattle will call upon Yovani Gallardo to lead them against Los Angeles. Gallardo will make his MLB debut with the Mariners Friday, after posting a 6-8 record with a 5.42 ERA in 23 starts with Baltimore last year.
