Pletcher’s Big 3 Pull Off Good Times in Workouts: With just a week to go before the 2023 Kentucky Derby, Todd Pletcher-trained entries Forte, Tapit Trice and Kingsbarns underwent separate workouts and pulled off good times, signaling their readiness to compete in the prestigious race. Two of the three – Forte and Tapit Trice – are handed the favorites’ tag by horseracing betting experts that cover the big events in the US.
First in line was Blue Grass Stakes winner Tapit Trice. He breezed four furlongs in 48.2 seconds with maiden winner Equivoque. The son of Tapit galloped out further and checked in at 1:00.6. Forte was next to perform and had a four-furlong clocking of 49.8 seconds while racing with Bright Future. The reigning juvenile male and Florida Derby winner had a gallop-out at 1:02.6 in his workout. Last to appear was Louisiana Derby topnotcher Kingsbarns. He completed the half-mile at 48.4 seconds while racing with Major Dude. Kingsbarns was timed 1:00.8 in his gallop-out session.
Pletcher, a two-time Kentucky Derby winner as a trainer, said that he was impressed with Tapit Trice’s workout. He said that the son of Tapit started solidly and had a good rhythm in the middle of the race en route to a fast clip. Pletcher also praised Kingsbarns and Forte for their impressive runs. The trainer also told the jockeys not to overwork the horses and save it for the big race ahead.
