Hidden Connection in the Hunt for Two-Turn Race Series in Oaklawn

Hidden Connection is among the horses for consideration in Oaklawn’s two-turn series of stakes races for fillies and mares next year. This was stated by her trainer Bret Calhoun on Saturday when asked about the development of the Grade 3 winner. In a statement, Calhoun said that there is a chance that Hidden Connection might race in the two-turn spectacle. The trainer said that Oaklawn features graded races in the coming weeks and his horse will take part in them.

Hidden Connection: Prepping for April Blossom Handicap

Oaklawn’s best two-turn race for older fillies and mares is the USD1-million Apple Blossom Handicap on April 15. But before this, there are two major Grade 2 local preps that allow horses to get ready with the Apple Blossom Handicap and give horseracing betting enthusiasts a peek on who to place their money in the big event. These are the Bayakoa Stakes on February 4 and the Azeri Stakes on March 11. Hidden Connection won thrice, placed second once and came in third once in eight races. She broke into the winning column on Friday with a 7 1/2-length win in a 1 1/16-mile race at the FairGrounds.

Road to Kentucky Derby Update

Forte is leading the Road to Kentucky Derby 2023 with nine races in. He now has 40 points and earned USD1,545,650. The son of Violence took home the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Breeders’ Futurity in his recent starts. Curly Jack is in second with 17 points, while Blazing Sevens and Instant Coffee are in third and fourth with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Dubyhnell and Practical Move are tied for fifth with 10 each. Points of 10-4-3-2-1 are given to horses that finished in the Top 5 of every Kentucky Derby qualifying race. As of December 19, nine races have already taken place with the Remington Springboard Mile being the last event.

No Points for Baffert-trained Horses

Bob Baffert-trained thoroughbreds are disqualified from the tournament because of the trainer’s suspension from Churchill Downs, pending appeal. Among the horses affected by the suspension is Cave Rock, who would have placed second with 22 points if not for the action by the racetrack officials against Baffert. The Remington Springboard Mile also did not award points to winner Wildatlanticstorm and second placer Giant Mischief because they used the banned Lasix in every Kentucky Derby qualifying race. Only Echo Again (three), Gunflash (two) and Campfire Creed (one) gained points in the race and that helped their standings as of the moment. More points are up for grabs in future races next year as the Kentucky Derby closes in. The derby is scheduled on May 6 and the top sports betting site for horseracing will give an update time and again about the Road to Kentucky Derby 2023.
