2021 Arkansas Derby: Favorites, Longshots and Predictions

2021 Arkansas Derby – Top class horse racing action picks up at the Oaklawn Park with the 2021 edition of the Arkansas Derby. Six horses will take part in this 1 1/8-mile (1.810-kilometer) race. The top four finishers will gain vital Kentucky Derby entry points. The Grade 1 race has been the stepping stone of horses. These are the ones who emerged victorious in top-stakes races in the United States.

These horses include Smarty Jones (2004) and American Pharoah (2015). The USD1-million event will happen on April 10 and stream live on TVG. Concert Tour aims to extend his unbeaten streak to four races but he needs to beat four horses that raced with him in his previous start. Online horse racing odds slightly favor the Bob Baffert-trained thoroughbred in this event.

The Race

The Arkansas Derby was initially held in 1936 and offered a purse of USD5,000. In 1960 and 2020, the derby was raced in two divisions to accommodate the entries. It was also last year that the event was flagged off in May due to the prevailing coronavirus disease in the US. Some of the winners in this derby have gone on to win the Kentucky Derby, including Smarty Jones in 2004 and American Pharoah in 2015. The latter also emerged victorious in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes Races to become the 12th winner of the Triple Crown. Other notable horses who won the Arkansas Derby were Afleet Alex (2005) and Curlin (2007). Last year, Basin won the Division 1 race and Nadal took home the title for Division II.

Betting on the Horseracing Race at the 2021 Arkansas Derby

Six entries are listed as possible entries in the 2021 edition of the event. Leading the cast is an unbeaten horse Concert Tour who pulled off an impressive showing in the Rebel Stakes. The three-year-old colt out of Street Sense started fast and had enough gas to finish the race first, 4 1/2 lengths ahead of Hozier. On Saturday, he seeks to make it four in a row and has familiar foes to deal with.

There is Hozier, another Baffert-trained colt who finished strong in the final stages to take home second place. He started slowly in the Rebel Stakes so he needs to step it up to secure the Arkansas Derby and vital points for Churchill Downs. Super Stock, meanwhile, is a seven-race veteran who came in fourth in the Rebel and is capable of pulling off an upset. Before the stakes race, Super Stock has a string of six races where he finished third or higher. Another entry in the strong field is Caddo River, who had a good start in his previous race only to be derailed in the homestretch where he finished just fifth.

The Smarty Jones Stakes winner should not be taken for granted in this race as he is capable of surprising everyone in this field. Get Her Number, meanwhile, could be a sleeper in this race as he is expected to bounce back from his seventh-place result in the Rebel Stakes. He is capable of winning a Grade 1 race as the colt out of Dialled In and Fancier took home the American Pharoah Stakes Race in September last year, defeating Rombauer and Spielberg. Lastly, Roman Centurian has placed no lower than fourth in his last four races, including a second-place finish at the Robert B. Lewis Stakes.

2021 Arkansas Derby Race Pick

Concert Tour has emerged as the top favorite by this best bookmaker in the 2021 Arkansas Derby due to his three-race winning streak. The streak will be the highlight of a convincing victory in the Rebel Stakes. Concert Tour might get a big challenge from Caddo River and Hozier but in the end, expect the Baffert-trained thoroughbred to have enough gas en route to another victory and 100 Kentucky Derby qualifying points.
