The 2020 United Nations Stakes event was founded in 1953 at the Atlantic City Race Course in Mays Landing, New Jersey. Initially, the race was set at 1 3/16 miles until the organizers changed it in 1999 and made it 1 3/8 miles. The first-ever winner of the event was Iceberg II. The race has an impressive winners’ roster which included Dr. Fager, Round Table, Manila, and Lure. Other winners of the United Nations Stakes are Mongo, Noble Dancer II, Sandpit, English Channel, Presious Passion, Main Sequence, and Big Blue Kitten. Last year, six-year-old Hunter O’Riley emerged victorious by beating Zulu Alpha and Channel Cat. It was also Paco Lopez’s first win in the stakes race.
Betting on Horse Racing at the 2020 United Nations Stakes
Nine horses are scheduled to run in the racing classic. It includes Arklow, who took home the 1 1/2-mule Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park in October last year. However, the six-year-old son of Arch has been inconsistent in his last four races and placed sixth in his last appearance at the Elkhorn Stakes. Muggsamatic is another entry to watch out for as the six-year-old gelding has won two of his last three races. It would be interesting to note that the horse will be ridden by last year’s winning jockey Paco Lopez.
Another entry to watch out for is Paret. The six-year-old out of Harbour Watch and Enduja won his last race in the Tiller Stakes in June. It will be his third long-distance race and seventh overall. Aquaphobia is another entry to place your bets on with the superb team of trainer Mike Maker and jockey Joe Bravo on his side. Bravo has won the United Nations Stakes four times with his last in 2017 as he guided Bigger Picture to first place. Other entries that are taking part in the race are Standard Deviation, Eve’s Medal, Current, O Dionysus, and Corelli.
2020 United Nations Stakes Probable Entries
The impressive field can give you something to think about. Experts who bet on stakes races would likely go for veteran horses like Arklow, Muggsamatic, and Aquaphobia in this 1 3/8 mile race. Paret can also give a run for his money based on his impressive performance at the Tiller Stakes. In a wide-open bunch where a good start is vital, Paret could emerge victorious with his sprinting skills but you can count on Arklow to win the race as well.
