2020 Fountain of Youth Stakes Race Favorites Longshots and Predictions

2020 Fountain of Youth Stakes Race – The Road to the Kentucky Derby intensifies on Saturday, February 29, with this year’s running of the Fountain of Youth Stakes Race. Fox Sports 2 will broadcast the race on television while Gulfstream Park’s website will stream the event live. The 1 1/16-mile (1.709-kilometer) race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses is a preparatory event for the Kentucky Derby that offers a whopping 50 points for the top finisher, while 20, 10 and five points await the second-, third- and fourth-best finishers, respectively. The stakes race is likewise a prep event for the Florida Derby slated on March 28. Eleven horses are marked as possible entries for the event and 2019 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) winner Structor, 2020 Mucho Macho Man top finisher Chance It, Dennis’ Moment and Attachment Rate are expected to figure prominently in the USD400,000 showcase, according to thoroughbred racing bettors.

The Race

From its initial running in 1945, the event has become one of the top races for three-year-old horses. The event was run at different distances until 2012 when Gulfstream built a second finish line so the stakes race could be contested at 1 1/16 miles. It normally attracts a strong field due to its importance with valuable Kentucky Derby entry points at stake. Aside from that, the race itself serves as a preparatory event for the Florida Derby. It could be worth mentioning that six of the horses that won it all in the Fountain of Youth Stakes race have also won at least one of the US Triple Crown races.

This illustrious group includes Orb, Union Rags, Thunder Gulch, Bet Twice, Kauai King and Tim Tam. Last year, Code of Honor emerged victorious by about 3/4 lengths over Bourbon War. The son of Noble Mission remained in the middle of the pack in the initial part of the race before launching an attack down the stretch to overtake favored Hidden Scroll and held off Bourbon War in the finish line by about 3/4 of a length. The colt’s time in the 1/16-mile race was one minute and 43.85 seconds.

*Odds to follow

Based on the colt’s three-race winning streak, online horserace betting experts are giving Structor the favorite’s tag in this pre-Kentucky Derby and pre-Florida Derby classic. However, he will have to deal with a deep field that includes Dennis’ Moment, Mucho Macho Man Stakes winner Chance It and Attachment Rate to win the race. In spite of the challenge ahead of him, Structor has the capability to whack up the win with a superb run down the stretch – just like in his two previous race wins – and remain unbeaten in four starts.
