As online horse punters can see, Justify is pegged as this racebook weekend’s betting favorites. Coming off a win at Preakness, Justify’s squad is confident they can get the job done this weekend. However, with a much larger field than he saw at Preakness, Justify will have to undoubtedly bring his A-game if he is to win the Triple Crown. With only 5 career races, Justify is one of the most inexperienced Belmont Stakes competitors. But that should work to his advantage as he brings in youthful vigor to the greatest challenge he’s faced. That said, some of the other competitors didn’t compete at Preakness and should be more rested than Justify. The added crowd plays against Justify’s favor as well. The more horses means more chances at getting caught in traffic and less opportunities to break out in front of the herd.
Justify does have one thing going for him and that’s Bob Baffert. One of the most recognizable names in online horse betting, Baffert has risen to recognition for all the right reasons. With a storied history behind him, any horse bearing his name is likely to be pegged as a favorite. Not only that, it was Baffert who trained the last horse to win the Triple Crown, American Pharoah, back in 2015. If Baffert is able to lead Justify to a Triple Crown victory this weekend, he’ll cement himself as an all time horse racing legend. Only 1 trainer has won two Triple Crowns so Baffert would be joining some prestigious company.
2018 Belmont Stakes Betting Conclusion
There are plenty of reasons to back Justify this weekend. The odds aren’t half bad, he’s looked great recently, and he has the right group around him to get the job done. However, there are several reasons to suspect that Justify will fall short of that tremendous goal. The field has incredible talent like Bravazo and Hofburg. But worse of all for Justify, it’s looking like it’ll be a bit clustered right out of the gate. This could hinder his game plan substantially. But considering Baffert’s experience, he should have a trick up his sleeve to get his horse in a position to win.
