Molinari Takes the Open: Recapping the Thrilling Action at the Open

Italian online golf betting players got a nice surprise this week as Francesco Molinari became the first Italian to win a major. But he didn’t just win The Open, he had to beat out some of the toughest competition in the world to do so. Ultimately it was his two-under final round of 69 that lead to his triumphant finish. That was in some pretty windy sports wagering conditions as well. In the end, Molinari finished ahead of the likes of Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and even Jordan Spieth. Since Molinari takes the open, let’s recap how he did it.

Molinari Takes the Open || Italy’s Big Day

“It is absolutely amazing,” stated Molinari moments after winning. “I think it will take a long time to sink in. It has been a great week.”

Although he entered as World’s No. 15, several online golf betting sites hopped on the Italian’s bandwagon before the Open commenced. Specifically, a handful of experts warned to keep an eye out for Molinari at Carnoustie. Ultimately those experts were right as Molinari wowed us through four brilliant days of competition.

Leading up to the Open, many were critical of his record at the event. However, on the other side of the fence were several bettors pointing to his streak of success leading up to the event. That included a huge PGA Championship at Wentworth, which marked his biggest triumph of the European Tour. It also marked his first victory at the Quicken Loans Classic.

Even though Molinari opened up with 70 and 72, he bounced back big time during the weekend. By delivering a breathtaking 65 on Saturday, the Italian thrust himself into contention. During an interview on Sunday Morning, Molinari made it clear that he was focused on getting pars that day. He did just that as he nailed 13 pars consecutively.

On hole 14, Molinari wowed us once again by delivering a birdie. Afterwards, we saw the Italian masterfully handle the 18th to pick up yet another shot. After finishing that round, Molinari nervously sat in the scorer’s cabin. Specifically, Molinari had his gaze fixed on the only remaining threat, Schauffele, who had just finished the 17th on a bogey.

This forced the American to eagle the last shot in order to force a play-off. However, he came up short, much to the rejoice of Molinari, and everyone else who placed an online bet on the Italian.

Other Tournament Takeaways || Woods Back on the Horse

Tiger Woods had a major fall from grace, one we won’t get into at the moment. What’s really important at this time is that the online golf betting veteran is back amongst the best. To kick things off at the start of the year, Woods was ranked 650th in the world. Now, the former champ issued his response by delivering a 72-hole performance at this year’s open. All in all that marks his lowest total since the 2012 Open. Clearly, Woods is back on the horse. With a couple more tournaments in sight, it might not be a terrible idea to back Woods in the coming months.
