EPL, Serie A Determined to Finish Season; Bundesliga Restart Plan Halted

Football clubs in the English Premier League and the Italian Serie A have expressed their desire to resume and finish their respective seasons that were postponed by the coronavirus pandemic. However, the German Bundesliga’s plan to resume its own tournament was scuppered following reports that three individuals from 1. FC Köln (Cologne) tested positive of COVID-19.

Online European football sportsbooks say that the desire of the Premier League and Serie A to restart their season is a good sign. This is good news especially among bettors who badly missed betting in the World’s No1 sport.

EPL, Lega Serie A Open to Resuming 2019-20 Season

Clubs in Premier League and Serie A have expressed their willingness to complete the remaining fixtures of the 2019-20 season. In the UK, EPL teams reiterated their determination to resume the tournament. The league still has 92 fixtures remaining on its schedule and experts said if tournament chiefs elect to cancel the remainder of the season, about GBP1 billion (EUR1.14 billion, USD1.25 billion) will be lost. Currently, EPL is pondering the next measures to ensure that matches comply with the health and safety protocols once the season resumes. One of the plans hatched by the league is to hold the matches in 10 neutral venues.

Meanwhile, Lega Serie A recently held an online emergency session. During the meeting, league officials expressed their interest to complete the season. The conference was held days after Italian Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora downplayed the chances of a possible Serie A restart. League president Paolo Dal Pino said that he is ready to hold talks with the government regarding the matter. Italian Football Federation chief Gabriele Gravina warned Serie A will lose EUR800 million (USD870 million) if it opts to cancel the 2019-20 season. Teams plan to hold practices on or before May 18. This will prepare them for the resumption of matches tentatively slated on June 13 and 14.

Ach nein! 3 Cologne Individuals Test Positive for COVID-19

Just as the officials of Italian Serie A and English Premier League were talking about the season resumption, the German Bundesliga hit a snag with three people from 1. FC Köln (Cologne) testing positive from coronavirus. The individuals, who tested positive on Thursday, will undergo a 14-day quarantine. Cologne said they will resume training and conduct more COVID-19 tests in the coming days.

In April, Bundesliga clubs kicked off preparations for the league’s restart. They pledged to hold matches behind closed doors. The league also ensured state and national authorities that it will follow COVID-19 health protocols. Also, German clubs expressed their determination to complete the 2019-20 season by June 30. This is to claim TV profit of about EUR300 million (USD325 million).

Conclusion

The determined European leagues will soon conclude their respective tournaments. This will mean closed arenas or stadia to avoid incurring million-dollar financial losses by the end of the tournament. Online soccer gambling fans are excited to see the conclusion of the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, and the German Bundesliga to know which teams will emerge victoriously.
